A little story about the Mambo and two lads from Puerto Rico raised in El Barrio of N.Y.. They have been dancing Mambo professionally around the world including India. According to Freddie Rios and Mike Ramos, "The Palladium Mambo Legends", nothing can compare in the world to the success they had in Paris this past month with the Tito Puente orq. directed by Jose Maderas and Johnny Rodriguez.
As you well know the Legends also travel with the Salsa Congress all around the world. Maderas is an accomplished arranger and percussionist as well as Rodriguez. According to the Legends he has re-arranged Puentes music and also Machitos Mambo music. May I remind the readers that the Palladium was the house that Machito, Puente and Tito Rodriguez built, those were the days, unforgettable, "I live for that." The french people wanted to learn the Palladium Mambo which more or less that is what everybody still dances today. Since Puente is very popular in France they brought the Tito's Puente orq. with Maderas and Rodriguez. plus the Palladium Mambo Legends, I heard que la partieron both the music and the dancing exibitions, were awsome. In addition the Legends conducted Mambo workshops which means that the French people are for real when it comes to learning the Mambo dancing. Personally I am very happy for this success.
The greatest Mambo dancers of all times came from the Palladium and of course the music, and I feel part of it. Freddie Rios and Mike Ramos and myself at one time or another were members of the Palladium Mambo Aces, the Palladium Mambo Jets, the Palladium Cha Cha Taps and the Salsa Aces and to top it Mike Ramos spent 13 years with El Gran Combo of Puerto Rico singing , dancing and choreographing, which means that these guys have a lot of experience in showbusiness.
My point is that the Mambo market in France is open and still strong around the world, so inquire about it my professional Mambo dancer friends in the U.SA. Hoping somebody else will help Freddie and Mike to carry the Mambo flag around the world.
Somebody asked me why I quit showbusiness, well it is a long story, but I still can Mambo.
Remember what you learn right you will never forget. Thanks Palladium. Ciao Mike Vazquez
