Things that are common in the Mambo and Salsa music of today and their dance. In my opinion the Mambo beat and the Salsa beat are the same no question about it; their clave is the same and their basic steps is the same and many of their movements are the same. Because of my musical and dancing knowledge I am able to come to this conclusion. Notice that it is not necessary to be in clave to dance this combination but you gotta have RHYTHM. The only difference from the Salsa dance and the Mambo dance is the many hand movements and turns in Salsa but in Mambo, you let go of your partner more and show-ff your various Mambo steps.
It is so FACINATING, EXCITING AND AWESOME to see this combination. After 35 years of dancing Mambo proffessionally and socially, I went to take Salsa lessons myself. Now I can relate and combine the N.Y. Palladium Mambo with La Salsa of today, and let me tell you it is a lot of fun. Try it and I am sure you will enjoy it as well.
If you want to learn the Mambo/Salsa combo dance, there are many dance instructors in the South Florida area that can teach you this combo; among them we have Brian Anthony and Jennifer, Jose Luis and Debbie, Carlos Tellez, Billie Fajardo, Katie Murlow, Tony Duarte, Ramani & Grisel, Nicola, Rene Gueits, y un monton mas which means many more.
The reason I wrote this article is because many people have asked me what is the difference between La Salsa of today and the Mambo of yesterday. Well some of the difference is that the harmony and the arrangements of today's music are very much more modern than the Mambo and harmony music arrangement of yesterday. Listen to EL MANICERO'S arrangement of yesterday and today's Ocar De Leon EL MANICERO arrangement. It is unbelievable. More modern and danceable than the one of yesterday. But everything else is the same...
I hope you caught a glimpse of this opinion. Now remember what Carlos Santana recently said in Puerto Rico, "The woman has the melody and the man has the rhythm". So guys go for the kill and take Mambo/Salsa dancing lessons..
Remeber if you know Salsa you know Mambo then you don't need lessons. Check it out. For now that's it.
